Zespa Appointed to Represent Agatha Christie Limited in China

Zespa Media has been appointed by Agatha Christie Limited (ACL), the management company for the literary and media rights to Agatha Christie’s works, to exclusively represent its TV and film adaptation rights in China. Under the agreement, which has immediate effect, Zespa is responsible for adapting Agatha Christie’s works into culturally-tuned locally-cast stories and commercialising them in China.

Agatha Christie wrote 66 detective novels and 14 short story collections in her lifetime. Her novels have sold around 2 billion copies. She is the best-selling novelist of all time, ranking third in the world’s most-widely published books, behind only Shakespeare and the Bible. Her most well-known fictional characters include Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple, Tommy and Tuppence.

Many of Christie’s works have been adapted for television and the big screen around the world over the last century. In recent years, BBC and 20th Century Fox have released or announced plans for a series of modern adaptations of Christie’s works for television and film.

ACL was set up by Christie herself in 1955 and is now chaired and managed by Agatha Christie’s great grandson James Prichard.

Miss Jean Dong, Chairman of Zespa Media, commented: “We are honoured to represent the Queen of Crime in China, and see great potential for contemporary local adaptations of these incredible works and the rich masterful plots that underpin them. We are excited to work with ACL and Chinese partners to bring the best of Agatha Christie to new audiences in China.”
